The Point

So you may be wondering what the point of this site is; and to be honest it really doesn't have one. I wanted my own domain simply for the e-mail account. I do like to fiddle casually with web design; I do know basic html, css, some asp, and I've recently discovered a little php (using mysql). As it stands this site houses a small piece of software I made a while back, a blog, a psychological experiment (my second year project), and a working login system! The experiment repertoire may increase, as I do like the idea of reinventing interesting experiments I come accross for computers and/or the web.

Open letter to Microsoft

First let me say that, for the most part, I do like Windows 8. I think the new style is appealing and the new app platform and design specification is great. I do however wish to voice a few concerns, as I don’t wish to see Windows become something I no longer enjoy using.

I’m sure when designing Windows 8 the primary thought was attempting to enter the tablet market and take on the Apple iPad. I assume that the cheaper Android-based offerings aren’t what was initially seen as a competitor as the price-points on Windows tablets are far more in-line with that of the iPads. For the purp...

Tomb Raider: what could have been

I've recently played through the new Tomb Raider game after pre-ordering a few days before release almost on a whim. I can say that for the most part I am glad I did. The single player campaign offers a great origin story for Lara, with some of the easiest controls, and most engaging game-play I've seen in some time. There are of course a few moments where the game is played around you as you hold W but luckily those times are rare and do help to present the story in the best cinematic light possible. The game also, like many of this generation, features dreaded quick-time-events. These could'...

Shutdown Basic

A while ago now I made a little program in Visual Basic. It basically shuts down (or restarts / logs off) your local Windows PC after a preset time period. I figured it a useful feature when I found Vista's native ability was limited to something stupid; 10 minutes I think.

My System

I realised I didn't mention my pride and joy on my site! I spend what is probably an unhealthy percentage of my time using or tinkering with my... computer (tut tut to the filthy minded of you out there). I feel the need to share my spec, and seeing as this is my site, I shall do just that! It's a CoolerMaster CM960 nVidia Edition case, a Core i5 2500K @ 4GHz (seems to be the highest stable overclock I can manage at the moment). That's being cooled by a Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler. I've got 8 GB RipjawsX DDR3. And the heart of my games- a 1024MB GDDR5 nVidia GTX 560 Ti. I've got that hooked up to a 32" LG LCD TV, an Onkyo TX-SR309 A/V Receiver, and a pair of Eltax Monitor Speakers. I'm also gaming with a Razer Mamba mouse, and I've just ordered a Cyborg PC V.7 keyboard! It's a nice setup! :D

About Me

So I'm a psychology graduate... I work part-time. I could go on but I see little point, unless anyone can get me some experience in forensic psychology :-). This site exists pretty much because I wanted my own name as my e-mail domain; and it gives me a chance to fiddle around with html and css. If you do feel the need to investigate me further, here are links to me around the web.
